BCA provides two important transport services, the Good Neighbour Scheme and the community minibus. We are indebted to our excellent team of volunteer drivers, escorts and co-ordinators.
If you like driving, enjoy meeting people and have some time to spare either regularly or occasionally, we would be delighted to hear from you. Go to Support Us to find out more about our volunteer driving opportunities.
Good Neighbour Scheme
This is our door to door transport scheme that links volunteer drivers with passengers who have no other means of getting to their hospital or other health related appointments. Passengers generally make a donation towards the cost of the journey.
Passengers wishing to use the service should contact the Co-ordinator on 07508 240762 giving as much notice as possible of their intended journey.
BCA has a 17 seater community minibus (16 passengers plus driver) which is available for use by local charitable and voluntary groups. It costs £1.20 per mile to use the bus (as at October 2015). BCA generally provides one of their own trained volunteer drivers, although some groups use their own trained drivers . Trips are very varied and range from weekly short journeys to local older people’s clubs to occasional trips to the seaside, to London or to out of town shopping centres.
Regular trips currently include:
- Monday afternoons – Monday Club at Burnham Methodist Church
- Tuesday mornings – Movers and Shakers at Burnham United Reformed Church
- Friday mornings – Shopping trip to large local supermarket
The bus does not have a tail lift so we regret it is not suitable for passengers in wheelchairs.
More information about the minibus from Nadine Picton, Minibus Co-ordinator, on 0746 884 0185.
